BELGISIZ KELIN

2024

Belgisiz Kelin is an exploration of textures, colors, and light, utilizing used plastic bags and trash bags that can be found under any other sink of any other household.

The artwork is a dialogue between transparency and color, where bags, produced from petroleum by-products, reflect modern reality and serve as a reminder of the legacy we leave behind – traces of ancient beings. Thus, the artwork becomes not only a visual archive but a symbol of certain dichotomy between natural and unnatural, past and present, urban and rural, ritualistic and industrial, ethical and aesthetical.

Belgisiz Kelin also reflects upon late capitalism with its obsession for branding, consumption and economic growth turning something temporary, valueless and wasteful to historical, timeless and contemporary. Nevertheless, the intention here is to rethink and repurpose one of the most common materials used in everyday lives of billions of people.

By conveying such personal vision, the artist hopes to inspire viewers and thinkers to find new interpretations and recognize poetic in the ordinary. Art, as a form of communication capable of transcending boundaries, becomes a way to express philosophy and extract an emotional response.
